Organ donors honoured by St John Ambulance Cymru and NHS Blood and Transplant

The 2024 Order of St John UK Awards for Organ Donation took place earlier this week, honouring individuals who have given the priceless gift of life through organ donation.

The awards are held throughout the UK and are run by the regional St John Priories in conjunction with their partner Organ Donation Team, who are part of NHS Blood and Transplant.

The Welsh Organ Donor Awards took place at Cornerstone in Cardiff on Tuesday, to honour donors from across Wales and the English borders.

St John Ambulance Cymru have been running the awards with the South Wales Organ Donation Team for the last decade to recognise the selfless contribution that organ donors and their families have made to help others.

32 families were reunited with members of the Organ Donation Team at the award ceremony on Tuesday 23rd April. Some of the team had personally helped families through their loved one’s organ donation process.

The awards, in the form of a pin and citation, were presented by Mrs Morfudd Meredith, HM Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan and Paul Griffiths OBE, KStJ, DL the Prior for Wales. This was followed by readings from members of NHS Blood and Transplant and a moment of reflection, led by Reverand Jason Townsend.

The Charity and Legacy Team at law firm Hugh James kindly sponsored the service, with partner Samantha Roberts attending the reception on behalf of the company. Samantha commented:

“We recognise the profound impact organ donors have on the lives of recipients and their families.”

“We are immensely proud to support the Organ Donation Awards and to be part of an initiative that acknowledges and honours donors and their families for their life saving decision to save and transform lives.”

The motto of the Order of St John is Pro Fide Pro Utilitate Hominum, which translates to ‘For the Faith and in the Service of Humanity’. The Organ Donor Awards honour those who have made the ultimate service to humanity, by giving others the gift of hope.

“St John Ambulance Cymru would like to extend our thanks to everyone who came along to the service and we’d like to acknowledge our sponsors, Hugh James, for their support, which enabled us to recognise donors and their families with these awards.

“Our thoughts are with all of the families of those who were honoured at the ceremony this week.” said Nichola Couceiro, Head of Fundraising and Communications at St John Ambulance Cymru.

Rhoddwyr organau yn cael eu hanrhydeddu gan St John Ambulance Cymru a Gwaed a Thrawsblaniadau’r GIG

Cynhaliwyd Gwobrau Urdd St John y DU ar gyfer Rhoi Organau ar gyfer 2024 yn gynharach yr wythnos hon, i anrhydeddu'r unigolion sydd wedi rhoi'r rhodd amhrisiadwy o fywyd trwy roi organau.

Mae’r gwobrau’n cael eu cynnal ledled y DU ac yn cael eu rhedeg gan Briordai St John rhanbarthol ar y cyd â’u Tîm Rhoi Organau cysylltiedig, sy’n rhan o Waed a Thrawsblaniadau’r GIG.

Cynhaliwyd Gwobrau Rhoddwyr Organau Cymru yn Cornerstone yng Nghaerdydd ar ddydd Mawrth, i anrhydeddu rhoddwyr o bob rhan o Gymru a'r gororau.

Mae St John Ambulance Cymru wedi bod yn cynnal y gwobrau gyda Thîm Rhoi Organau De Cymru am y 11 flwyddyn ddiwethaf i gydnabod y cyfraniad anhunanol y mae rhoddwyr organau a’u teuluoedd wedi’i wneud i helpu eraill.

Cafodd 32 o deuluoedd eu hailuno ag aelodau o'r Tîm Rhoi Organau yn y seremoni wobrwyo ddydd Mawrth 23 Ebrill. Roedd rhai o’r tîm wedi helpu teuluoedd yn bersonol trwy broses rhoi organau eu hanwyliaid.

Cyflwynwyd y gwobrau, ar ffurf pin a dyfyniad, gan Mrs Morfudd Meredith, Arglwydd Raglaw EM De Morgannwg a Paul Griffiths OBE KStJ DL, Prior i Gymru. Dilynwyd hyn gan ddarlleniadau gan aelodau Gwaed a Thrawsblaniadau’r GIG ac eiliad o fyfyrio, dan arweiniad y Parchedig Jason Townsend.

Bu Tîm Elusennol ac Chymynroddion y cwmni cyfreithiol Hugh James yn ddigon caredig i noddi’r gwasanaeth, gyda Phartner y cwmni, Samantha Roberts, yn mynychu’r derbyniad ar ran y cwmni. Dywedodd Samantha:

“Rydym yn cydnabod yr effaith ddofn y mae rhoddwyr organau yn ei chael ar fywydau derbynwyr a’u teuluoedd.

“Rydym yn hynod falch o gefnogi’r Gwobrau Rhoi Organau ac i fod yn rhan o fenter sy’n cydnabod ac yn anrhydeddu rhoddwyr a’u teuluoedd am eu penderfyniad i achub a thrawsnewid bywydau.”

Arwyddair Urdd St John yw Pro Fide Pro Utilitate Hominum, sy’n cyfieithu fel ‘Dros y Ffydd ac yng Ngwasanaeth Ddynoliaeth’. Mae'r Gwobrau Rhoddwyr Organau yn anrhydeddu'r rhai sydd wedi gwneud y gwasanaeth eithaf i ddynoliaeth, trwy roi rhodd gobaith i eraill.

“Hoffai St John Ambulance Cymru estyn ein diolch i bawb a ddaeth i’r gwasanaeth a hoffem gydnabod ein noddwyr, Hugh James, am eu cefnogaeth, a’n galluogodd i gydnabod rhoddwyr a’u teuluoedd gyda’r gwobrau hyn.

“Mae ein meddyliau gyda'r holl deuluoedd y rhai a gafodd eu hanrhydeddu yn y seremoni'r wythnos hon.” meddai Nichola Couceiro, Pennaeth Codi Arian a Chyfathrebu yn St John Ambulance Cymru.
