St John Ambulance Cymru and National Grid Electricity Distribution are working together to ensure young people in South Wales are taught invaluable safety information this year.
National Grid is sponsoring the running costs of demonstrations in 20 schools and youth groups in its South Wales distribution area, which will be delivered by the first aid charity for Wales between January and April 2024.
Young people will learn important skills that could help save a life such as CPR, defibrillator awareness, choking response and the recovery position. They will also learn about various electrical hazards and how to avoid electricity-related accidents.
The first of these sessions took place at St Illtyd’s Catholic High School based in Rumney, Cardiff, with a group of year 8 students. The young people listened to National Grid’s electrical safety talk before learning the basics of first aid and having a practice with the CPR dummies. The students loved the session with St John Ambulance Cymru Trainer, Lesa, and National Grid representative, Jacob.
St John Ambulance Cymru runs free first aid demonstrations in schools and community groups all year round and the National Grid’s sponsorship is helping both organisations share lifesaving knowledge with even more young people in Wales.

Mae St John Ambulance Cymru a Dosbarthiad Trydan y Grid Cenedlaethol yn cydweithio i sicrhau bod pobl ifanc yn Ne Cymru yn cael eu haddysgu am wybodaeth diogelwch amhrisiadwy eleni.
Mae’r Grid Cenedlaethol yn noddi costau cynnal arddangosiadau mewn 20 o ysgolion a grwpiau ieuenctid yn ei ardal ddosbarthu yn Ne Cymru, a fydd yn cael ei darparu gan elusen cymorth cyntaf Cymru rhwng Ionawr ac Ebrill 2024.
Bydd pobl ifanc yn dysgu sgiliau pwysig a allai helpu i achub bywyd fel CPR, ymwybyddiaeth o ddiffibriliwr, ymateb i dagu a'r sefyllfa adfer. Byddant hefyd yn dysgu am wahanol beryglon trydanol a sut i osgoi damweiniau sy'n gysylltiedig â thrydan.
Cynhaliwyd y cyntaf o’r sesiynau hyn yn Ysgol Uwchradd Gatholig Illtyd Sant yn Nhredelerch, Caerdydd, gyda grŵp o fyfyrwyr blwyddyn 8. Gwrandawodd y bobl ifanc ar sgwrs diogelwch trydanol y Grid Cenedlaethol cyn dysgu hanfodion cymorth cyntaf a chael ymarfer gyda dymis CPR. Roedd y myfyrwyr wrth eu bodd yn y sesiwn gyda Hyfforddwr St John Ambulance Cymru , Lesa, a chynrychiolydd y Grid Cenedlaethol, Jacob.
Mae St John Ambulance Cymru yn cynnal arddangosiadau cymorth cyntaf am ddim mewn ysgolion a grwpiau cymunedol trwy gydol y flwyddyn ac mae nawdd y Grid Cenedlaethol yn helpu’r ddau sefydliad i rannu gwybodaeth achub bywyd gyda hyd yn oed mwy o bobl ifanc yng Nghymru.
Dywedodd Nichola Coucerio, Pennaeth Codi Arian, Ymgysylltu a Chyfathrebu St John Ambulance Cymru :
“Rydym yn falch iawn o fod yn bartner y Grid Cenedlaethol yn y prosiect pwysig hwn, sydd yn dysgu plant sut i gadw’n ddiogel ac achub bywydau.
“Mae St John Ambulance Cymru eisiau i bob person ifanc dysgu’r sgiliau a’r hyder i achub bywyd, rhag ofn i argyfwng ddigwydd, ac mae ein sesiynau ymwybyddiaeth am ddim i ysgolion a grwpiau cymunedol yn un ffordd rydyn ni’n gweithio tuag at y nod hwn.
“Ni allwn wneud hyn heb ein cefnogwyr hael ac rydym yn ddiolchgar iawn i’r Grid Cenedlaethol am weithio mewn partneriaeth â ni i gyflwyno sesiynau ysgolion yn Ne Cymru dros y misoedd nesaf.”
Dywedodd Nick South, Rheolwr Addysg a STEM gyda Dosbarthiad Trydan y Grid Cenedlaethol:
