As Wales’ leading first health charity, an organisation which has dedicated over 100 years to enhancing the health and wellbeing of people in Wales, St John Ambulance Cymru recognise more than most the importance of nurses and their role in society. The charity is holding one of the first events of its kind in Wales, an International Nurses Day celebration at St John the Baptist Church in Cardiff. The event is taking place this Friday, the 12th May 2023 and St John Ambulance Cymru are inviting you to come along.
The event will consist of a pop-up recruitment session, aiming to tell the public all about nursing and encourage recruitment into nursing professions. St John Ambulance Cymru are hosting a variety of different organisations at the event, including delegates from the Military, local Welsh Universities, the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, the Royal College of Nurses and representatives from some of the local health boards. These individuals will be present for people to network with and answer questions. The recruitment space will be open from 3.30-5.30pm, allowing time for people to pop in and out.
“We hope this recruitment event encourages individuals who are thinking of pursuing a career in nursing to try volunteer nursing at St John Ambulance Cymru or within other specialisms like the Military,” says Richard J Paskell, Chief Volunteer at St John Ambulance Cymru. “Volunteering can provide individuals with both the personal and the professional skills required to pursue a career in nursing, as well as other healthcare related roles – so we want to spread the word!”
From 6.30pm, St John Ambulance Cymru will be holding a Service of Thanksgiving in the Church. Over 100 guests will be in attendance, including Health Board Chairs, the Lord Mayor of Cardiff and the Health Minister. This service will consist of readings and prayers to give thanks to nurses here in Wales and around the world.

Fel prif elusen iechyd gyntaf Cymru, sefydliad sydd wedi ymroi dros 100 mlynedd i wella iechyd a lles pobl Cymru, mae St John Ambulance Cymru yn cydnabod yn fwy na’r mwyafrif bwysigrwydd nyrsys a’u rôl mewn cymdeithas.
Mae’r elusen yn cynnal un o'r digwyddiadau cyntaf o’i fath yng Nghymru, sef dathliad Diwrnod Rhyngwladol Nyrsys yn Eglwys Sant Ioan Fedyddiwr yng Nghaerdydd. Cynhelir y digwyddiad ddydd Gwener yma, 12 Mai 2023 ac mae St John Ambulance Cymru yn eich gwahodd i ddod.
Bydd y digwyddiad yn cynnwys sesiwn recriwtio, gyda’r nod o ddweud popeth wrth y cyhoedd am nyrsio ac annog recriwtio i broffesiynau nyrsio. Mae St John Ambulance Cymru yn cynnal amrywiaeth o wahanol sefydliadau yn y digwyddiad, gan gynnwys cynrychiolwyr o’r Fyddin, Prifysgolion Cymreig lleol, Ymddiriedolaeth GIG Gwasanaethau Ambiwlans Cymru, Coleg Brenhinol y Nyrsys a chynrychiolwyr o rai o’r byrddau iechyd lleol.
Bydd yr unigolion hyn yn bresennol i bobl rwydweithio â nhw ac ateb cwestiynau. Bydd y man recriwtio ar agor o 3.30-5.30pm, gan ganiatáu amser i bobl alw i mewn ac allan.
“Rydym yn gobeithio y bydd y digwyddiad recriwtio hwn yn annog unigolion sy’n ystyried dilyn gyrfa mewn nyrsio i roi cynnig ar nyrsio gwirfoddol yn St John Ambulance Cymru neu o fewn arbenigeddau eraill fel y Fyddin,” meddai Richard J Paskell, Prif Wirfoddolwr yn St John AmbulanceCymru.
“Gall gwirfoddoli roi’r sgiliau personol a phroffesiynol sydd eu hangen ar unigolion i ddilyn gyrfa mewn nyrsio, yn ogystal â rolau eraill sy’n ymwneud â gofal iechyd – felly rydym am ledaenu’r gair!”
O 6.30pm, bydd St John Ambulance Cymru yn cynnal Gwasanaeth o Ddiolchgarwch yn yr Eglwys. Bydd dros 100 o westeion yn bresennol, gan gynnwys Cadeiryddion Byrddau Iechyd, Arglwydd Faer Caerdydd a’r Gweinidog Iechyd. Bydd y gwasanaeth hwn yn cynnwys darlleniadau a gweddïau i ddiolch i nyrsys yma yng Nghymru a ledled y byd.
Mae St John Ambulance Cymru wrth eu bodd yn cynnal y digwyddiad ac yn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb mewn nyrsio i ddod draw a rhwydweithio â phobl o'r un anian.
